What Do We Mean by “Without Boundaries”?

At Science Without Boundaries, we aim to shed light on scientific topics often on the fringes of mainstream academic research, complex questions that require interdisciplinary approaches (in other words, that need multiple kinds of experts working together to understand). When we say “Without Boundaries,” we mean research that:

• Includes top scientific and academic experts across a full range of subject areas (i.e., is truly interdisciplinary).
• Asks scientific questions without the prejudice of cultural assumptions regarding what “should” or “could not” be, but instead focuses on the data.
• Engages with rather than simply dismisses the experiences and questions of communities often ignored in scientific practice – including rural and indigenous communities, as well as those who report unusual experiences.
• Sheds new light on questions, people, and approaches that have traditionally been ignored, under-examined, and/or left to less credible, less rigorous, and less neutral voices to represent.
